Although we are at the end of Level 1 both of my students still have trouble distinguishing between the 2 sounds. I am going to put the word pairs in the video on index cards and start using that as part of my review with them each session. With one of my students I may need to do that with all of the short vowel sounds. With her I think it is more of a focusing issue as opposed to a lack of ability issue. We shall see. Thanks, Marie, for the exercise. I am confident that this will help.

See, I knew there was a reason that I never paid attention to the difference in pronunciation between "pin" and "pin" - I grew up in Florida! My husband grew up in San Diego, and gave me a hard time one day about which I was saying. I told him that they are both pronounced so closely that it's all about context to know which word is being said. He said that no, they both have a very distinct sound difference and that I needed to learn to say them "right"! LOL!
Well, when I started using AAS about 2 years ago, I saw the need right away for me to be very clear about how I was saying these sounds. Especially for Mike, who has a hard enough time distinguishing sounds as it is! If I don't say the word right, he can't spell it right!
At least now I know there is a specific regional reason for the way I said those words!

I would like your suggestion to my daughter Suzanna Christy who is studying First standard in an English Medium School. She needs some motivation to read lessons on her own. What are the methods? Kindly suggest some methods. Thank you. MBJ Pancras
