Is there any guideline/rule to help a student know when to double the consonant in 2 syllable (both closed) words? This seems to be very inconsistent and confusing when presenting wordlists for my student to spell.
Unfortunately habit doesn't follow the spelling generalizations that work for most of our language. Here's another thread on habit vs. rabbit that you might be interested in. While we usually find two consonants in this case, we don't with habit--the dictionary divides it hab-it, so that there are still two closed syllables. We *usually* would divide a word like this ha-bit. Words like this can be confusing, feel free to throw it in jail if that helps your kids to learn it. That and lots of review help us. Merry :-)

I would like your suggestion to my daughter Suzanna Christy who is studying First standard in an English Medium School. She needs some motivation to read lessons on her own. What are the methods? Kindly suggest some methods. Thank you.
