Oh, I wish I had seen this last week...
Connor used a notebook instead of the Silent E book. But William really needs the actual book. I've stressed about letting him use it, as that means I won't have one for anyone else.
Well, I'll look to purch…
My oldest is in 7th grade... and at the rate we are moving through the program, he won't be finishing AAS until 9th grade.
Do I think it is important? You betcha.
I think that for some kids, spelling certainly can be phased out. I don't happen to…
Cheryl,
There is a schedule. I don't have the whole thing in front of me, but I know that the first story was scheduled with the first two steps in level 2, and the next story is scheduled with steps 3-5. Story #3 went with step 6, and story #4 wit…
Marie -- yeah, I know. I have two kids who really could have benefitted from the readers... and the readers are coming out just behind what they really need. My 6 and 4 year olds would enjoy the readers, but they don't really NEED them. Is it worth…
Cheryl,
My son isn't as old as yours, and he isn't just now starting. But I wanted to encourage you in a couple things, based on my limited experience.
My oldest is in 7th grade, and way above grade level in all things except spelling and writing.…
I'm probably too late... and we've only read the first story... but my son loved the dragonfly on page 15. Coming from a family of entomologists, I guess we can't help but notice bugs... and he was practically in tears because he was reading a book…
Merry,
Yes, I have used upper levels of AAS, and I did know that... :) I wasn't necessarily meaning to sound like I was pointing out differences between the programs... AAS doesn't exclude religious words either, which is something I appreciate abo…
I am recycling cards too, so I refuse to mark them up.
What I did with my oldest, and will undoubtedly repeat, is that after we put a word in jail (which he loves), we grab a couple of dry erase pens, and he gets to write the word on a window. Then…
I used Spelling Power at one point too, and I have to concur with what you write here, Merry. I don't know what is out now, but my book is the 3rd edition, and I have never used the DVD, CD-ROM, or any of the little test booklets. I also have never…
Thanks for the welcome. It's really nice to find a group using this spelling program, I love it, after bombing and failing at many many other attempts.
We're kind of in the NE Springs, Powers and Dublin-ish. Good to meet an almost local.

Debra,
My son sounds much like yours. He is 10, and can spell fine when given the rule. But the reading has been a slow process. What do you use to work on fluency? We have been reading Nate the Great Books, twice a day, 10 min each time. Usually reads 4 or 5 pages at that rate.
I would like your suggestion to my daughter Suzanna Christy who is studying First standard in an English Medium School. She needs some motivation to read lessons on her own. What are the methods? Kindly suggest some methods. Thank you.
