I agree - you can't beat reading aloud. My kids loved it till older ages, but I was still sad when they grew out of it!

Well...it's probably cliche to say it, but reading to them and modeling a habit of reading are the best ways I know of! We read literature nightly even now that they are 7th and 5th grades--I hope to continue the tradition as long as they are at hom…

I haven't had time to read all the replies to this, but I had a comment on the phonics/spelling comment in your post. It is said that "if you can spell a word, you can read it, but the reverse is not always true." Since spelling is more complicated…
