I have found that spelling and reading are so connected that I use this program to help with improving reading fluency with my reading students. I did have a teacher of one of my third grade students caution me against having the student learn "too many" rules as this would just confuse her. But she had seen improvement in Bailey's fluency...big surprise. I told the mom we were just going to keep doing what we had been. Her mother concurred, commenting that the school hadn't done all that much to correct the problem.

I also have an 8 month old grandson that will be homeschooled...by me. His parents and I have already made that decision, so I am thrilled to be involved in AAS and this board knowing that there will be an immense amount of help and support when we start that endeavor.

Oh I love that this group has started. My 9 year old son has had a rough time with learning to read and I also have almost 3 year old that I want to try to teach. He's advanced in language abilities and I can't wait to see what the early stuff looks like.

I'm joining in here. I've a 4 yo and am interested in giving her a great foundation in reading so that I won't have to re-teach!

Hi Michelle, Great question! I copied your question into a new discussion thread "Preparing for Reading and Spelling" above, as I think this question may come up again!

I plan to use AAS along with SL LA to teach my ds (now 6) to read. Right now we are doing speech therapy, so I have been holding off starting.

I've got a little guy wanting to learn to read as well. Will the Beehive reader just be readers or will it be a pre-level AAS program?

I guess I could say I'm somewhat in the same boat as " Robin" I'm also going to be mostly lurking, since I am also going to be teaching my dd to read using AAS. :)

I'm going to be lurking on this group mostly, as I'm thinking about using AAS to teach my 3rd child to read this next year.

Does anyone know anything about the reader/readers that are coming out in April?

I can't say enough good things about AAS, it's the best purchase I have ever made!

Hi Julie! All About Reading will follow the same sequence as All About Spelling (so the first book out will follow AAS Level 1). The word topics/sequence of AAS Level 1 will be followed, but the word lists will be expanded. It will include decoding…

First of all, I wanted to say that I just got my Beehive Reader today and it is beautiful!  I love it!  Thank you!   My question is about AAR.  Aren't they all these days?  So, I have a friend that is starting school in September.  She has asked me…

Glad that helped! It's all so time consuming, I know. My 13 yo is in vision therapy, both of my kids need lots of one on one in various subjects--my hat is off to you teaching all of your children!! My 11 yo has struggled with auditory processing,…

Thank you! There's some excellent ideas here. I think I will take all your suggestions for the 4yo until I can better evaluate the needs of the other two. I'm not sure whether to consider DD9 as LD/dyslexic....she's not to the same degree as her old…

LOL, very cute! It's raining cats & dogs here today, I think *I* need a rain "ponko." :-). BTW, I asked Marie about "Nurse." In the most recent printing of L3, nurse is included in the "more words" section, and in the appendix. Merry :-)

Hi Deidre, Whether you can reuse the cards this soon depends on what your 9 yo needs from AAS. The first step of every level will review all previously learned phonogram, sound, and key cards, so you will always need to "borrow" the cards back for…

Deidre, I think you can go ahead and start with your 4yo. I like to have separate sets of phonogram cards for my kids, but I don't think most people do that. You can buy the phonogram cards separately, if you are like me. Other than that level 2 wi…

I just started using AAS 1 with my 9yo dd.  She is moving through it quite quickly, and we will finish next week.  My 4yo already reads CVC words fluently, and writes a lot of inventive writing (but can spell CVC words).   I'm thinking of starting 4…

I have the same problem with my daughter. She is younger than your son (almost 8) and she doesn't mind writing, but she is always in such a hurry that it comes out very, very sloppy! Recently I noticed that while doing AAS she became bogged down wit…
