How is everyone doing?

We had one crazy week here! I think my daughter hit a growth spurt or something because she started making uncharacteristic mistakes in math, history--even spelling. When she wrote, "Due note ben the ric!" instead of "Do not burn the rice!" for dictation (level 3), though, my stomach churned. What happened to all the work we've done this year?!! Thankfully I didn't flip out on her, I read it phonetically and had her try again--and then she did just fine except burn was "bern." We took a break and re-read the UR word list.

Now that the week is done, she seems to be back to her normal self. A year ago, writing like this was pretty typical--I'm just not in the habit of seeing it anymore. It's good to remember where we've come from. And to not freak-out (too much) at the temporary set-backs. We all have bad weeks sometimes!

So, how was your week?

Merry :-)

Merry,

I know exactly what you mean. My oldest two did a little of the same. They have been through through the phonograms weekly for about two years now, and usually get they all right. Actually we have a deal. If they can get them all right 4 weeks in a row they don't have to cover them for a month, then they only go back to weekly IF they miss some on their monthly review. Anyway it is rare for either of them to get more than one wrong. This week both of them had off weeks and got about 6 cards wrong (???). Of course in reviewing the ones they missed daily since they get them right every time. (Is this Bizzaro world?)

My 3rd child, Honey Dew, suddenly is confusing the sounds of vowels again. She did it early on with /i/ and /e/ and this week added /a/ and /u/ to the mix as well as confusing the first two. She is also struggling with hearing blends. If I give her a word like hand she will spell had. I ask her to read the word, and she will realize her mistake and correct it. I really am not making a big deal out of it right now, she did segment just fine when we started this section. But I am sill considering having her segment the word first anyway, then spell it. But then again maybe it will just be gone next week.

Other than those issues it was a good week. My oldest is doing level 2, the rest level 1, though my ds is just working on the phonograms. :D

We had a wonderful week. It makes me wonder what next week will be like. My dd focused really hard and did great in handwriting, phonograms and pretty much every subject. We finished everything in 3 days! She kept wanting to do more. This is not the normal week. Praise God-sometimes you just need one like this.

I would like your suggestion to my daughter Suzanna Christy who is studying First standard in an English Medium School. She needs some motivation to read lessons on her own. What are the methods? Kindly suggest some methods. Thank you. MBJ Pancras
