The ChatterBee

Well I've been a fan of AAS for a long time and because of some issues in our house I tried to go a different route with spelling.  I was so worried about getting my dd reading that I lost focus and let my oldest use a workbook for spelling instead and dropped AAS.  My dd is starting to read, she can read short and long vowels that are v-c-silent e, which is a huge improvement, but I've now realized leaving my son to his own devices for spelling was a huge mistake.  I've now come to my senses after talking to my 10.5 year old about the situation.  He seemed to think the answer was simple, he said "Mom what about the one with all the cards and the tiles, that was fun and I remember how to spell all the words I learned that way"  So I gave him a sort of impromptu test and sure enough all he'd learned in AAS he retained, and I even heard him thinking through those rules.  So I just went and ordered the whole sha-bang, yep all 5 levels with extra material packs for my dd and 2 sets of tiles.  My youngest can wait for now, he's only 4.5 and more than likely his big brother, my oldest, will be done with AAS before the little guy needs it.  I plan to do a quick review of level 1 with him and jump into level 2 full force, we had only made it part way through level 2 last time, and just keep plugging along.  My dd has asked to do AAS even though the McRuffy program I use for her has spelling included, I figure extra practice can't hurt.

So for those that remember me, I'm glad to be back, for those that never met me I'll give a short intro.

My name is Kel, dh and I have 3 kids ages 10.5, 8, and 4.5.  My dh is in the Navy and we are currently stationed in VA.  I post on many boards and am rather eclectic in my homeschooling.  I also blog about our school at Fawkes Academy.

Welcome back! I remember you :-). Sometimes it takes some experimenting to decide what works for us, that's ok :-).

Merry :-)

I would like your suggestion to my daughter Suzanna Christy who is studying First standard in an English Medium School. She needs some motivation to read lessons on her own. What are the methods? Kindly suggest some methods. Thank you. MBJ Pancras
